Google Map image in modal View Form not showing

Hi,
when a form is set to be in modal dialog mode, the google map object does not display on the View Modal Dialog Form, only the id/key shows, is this by design?. When you edit the record the map appears.
we haven't seen any errors in the debugger to note.
