Search Options in Modal dialog for Lookup

Post by mobhar »

Modal dialog for Lookup is a good feature, and we love it a lot. It can help us to search the lookup record easily and quickly.

That would be great also, if you can add a new option in that Lookup Modal dialog, to search by using "Any Keywords" option just like we use in Quick Search of List Page, besides the existing condition we can search by entering some character into the Search textbox.

The main reason for this is because, when we enable "Multiple", so that we can select more than one record, then we often want to display the certain records to be displayed all together.

Let's say, we want to lookup and display the following three Customers at the top, so that we can select all of them at once:

  • Alfreds Futterkiste (ALFKI)
  • Ernst Handel (ERNSH)
  • Maison Dewey (MAISD)

For this, then we can simply enter "ALFKI ERNSH MAISD" in the Search textbox, choose "Any Keywords" option, and hit the Search button, then all those three selected records will be added back to the main form. Of course, in that case, we have already enabled "Quick Search" option for the field from "Fields" setup, so that it will support to be used as quick search.

If we don't have this option, then we have to display the Lookup dialog window, to select the record, to hit the Select button... and all those actions must be done for three times (for that example above), to add it to the main form, and this cumbersome.

Thank you.
